Malaysia eyes PH as big tourism market
CLARK FREEPORT—Tourism Malaysia is eyeing the Philippines as one of its major markets in the tourism industry.
In a press statement during its launching and promo tour dubbed as “Tara na Malaysia 2012,” Tourism Malaysia said that their country was able to receive a total of 362,101 tourists from the Philippines last year and it remains in the top 10 tourist generating markets for Malaysia.
The Philippines, Tourism Malaysia said, had topped the record growth in terms of the numbers of tourists that visited the country with 45.3 percent, followed by China (34.2 percent) Japan (32.5 %), Indonesia (20.0 %), India (6.9 %) and United Kingdom (5.9 %). Asean region continued to be the largest contributor of tourist arrivals with 73.8 percent as compared to the countries.
“Tara na Malaysia 2012” is part of the Malaysia government intensive marketing efforts to promote the country as premier tourist destination to the Philippines market.
For the first six months of 2012, Malaysia welcomed 11,632,478 tourist arrivals, registering a growth of 2.4 percent as compared to 11,362,862 arrivals for the same period last year.
The Malaysian government has generated some $8.93 billion in terms of revenue from Jan to June this year alone.
Part of Tourism Malaysia’s 10-day promotional tour and road-show activities includes holding of cultural shows in different colleges and universities and local government unit offices. It also showcases the best travel products, new attractions, destinations and services, as well as to convey harmony, highlighting ethnic diversity and the multi-cultural heritage of the country.
A business session and gala night will be the highlight of the event. The event is being sponsored by Tourism Malaysia airline partners – AirAsia and Cebu Pacific.
Malaysia delegation is comprised of hoteliers, tour operators, airline partners, legolandia Malaysia, Sabah tourism Board, MATRADE Manila, “Teh Tarik” and “Roti Canai” demonstrators as well as the cultural troupe from the state of Perak.
