Mayors’ league prexy eyes congressional seat

CANDABA – Pampanga Mayors’ League president and town Mayor Jerry Pelayo last Saturday expressed interest to run as representative of the fourth district of Pampanga.
Pelayo made the announcement in an informal meeting with several village chieftains from this town’s East Region during an outreach program by the Provincial Government.
Pelayo’s declaration for his congressional ambition was heard by Board Member Ricardo Yabut, who was also present during the meeting. It was also witnessed by former second district representative Mikey Arroyo, who is reportedly running for vice governor in 2013.
“Dapat siguro pulungin ang lahat ng mga kapitan sa distrito pati na ng mga mayor para malaman kung sino ang kanilang gustong kandidato sa pagka-kongresista,” the mayor stated.
He likewise floated the idea of conducting a joint survey to be done by an independent group to determine who between him and Yabut is preferred by the people in the fourth district.
The proposed survey is planned to be undertaken after two weeks of propaganda showcasing the capabilities of Pelayo and Yabut in terms of accomplishments, programs and credentials. This, according to Pelayo, will determine their winnability.
“Handa naman natin siyang suportahan (referring to Yabut). Ang kailangan lang ay maipakita niya sa atin na mananalo siya,” Pelayo pointed out.
However, Pelayo clarified that come Election Day, Candaba town will have a common congressional candidate.
It can be recalled that Yabut earlier announced that he will run for congressman in the fourth district in 2013.
He also claimed that he is prepared to battle it out with former Rep. Juan Pablo Bondoc who is also reportedly running in the next elections. (Herbert P. Mapiles)
