Mayor’s bro is new barangay league president

December 11, 2010

ARAYAT — The younger brother of three-term Mayor Luis Espino was declared winner in the election of the Liga ng mga Barangay (League of Barangays) held at the Municipal Council session hall last Tuesday.

Julio Espino Jr., Barangay Cacutud chairman, was unanimously voted by his fellow barangay chairmen in the 30 villages in this first-class municipality as the new Liga ng mga Barangay president together with his new set of officers.

Espino, a first-term village chief, told Sun.Star Pampanga that he is indeed honored to have gained the trust, confidence and respect of his fellow barangay chairmen, saying he will work hard for the league, which includes ensuring the welfare of its officers and members.

The younger Espino said despite being new in public service, he is confident that he will be able to be of service to his barrio mates, as well as represent the league as ex-officio member of the Municipal Council.

Espino is clear about the priorities he will pursue in
behalf of the 30 barangay chairmen of this town. These are various infrastructure projects like barangay roads, day care centers, covered courts, health centers, school buildings, as well as livelihood and health care services for their respective constituents.

He says that as the younger brother of the local chief executive, he is confident he will be an asset to the league, saying their voices and requests will definitely be given attention.

Espino believes he will be heard because in the past two terms of the mayor until the present, there has been great prosperity and progress evident in the city and in its barangays.

The league president said he will also be enlisting the help of Governor Lilia Pineda and third district Congressman Aurelio Gonzales.

For his part, Mayor Espino lauded his younger brother for uniting the barangay chairmen, saying that in unity there is peace, progress and development.

The older Espino, who was once a barangay chairman and a league president, promised to assist the league in their various endeavors to uplift the lives and well-being of their constituents starting at the grassroots level.

The mayor said a city will not be progressive if its barangays are struggling with poverty.

He pointed out that given his experience in barangay governance, he knows what the barangays need.

Mayor Espino assures the newly elected barangay league officials that his office and the Municipal Council, together with Vice Mayor Larry Trinidad, will help them facilitate the projects and services they have lined up for their respective barangays.

Espino reiterates that if everyone helped one another, nothing is impossible.

The other elected league officers are:

Vice President: Enrique Garcia (San Nicolas)
Auditor: Roy Magcalas (Gatiawin)
Secretary: Policarpio Dizon (Balite)
Treasurer: Nazario Vinuya (Mapalad)

Members of the Board of Directors are Ronnie Miranda (Camba), Angelina Fabian (Arenas)
, Gloria Buan (Buensoceso), Hilario Espino (Mesulo), Maria Martiner (Plaza Luma) and Ronald Alejandrino (Poblacion). (Chris Navarro)
