More firms comply with minimum wage requirements
January 04, 2011
THE Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) reported that more companies followed the minimum wage requirements set by the various Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPBs).
“In the minimum wage compliance, ang report sa amin is 81 percent compliant ang mga companies natin,” said Labor Undersecretary Lourdes Trasmonte.
The labor department expects an increase of the compliance rate when it completes its inspections to the more than 35,000 establishments nationwide.
Since September 2010, the department enhanced its labor enforcement programs to achieve higher rate compliance on minimum wages.
Meanwhile, Transmonte reported that only 50 percent of the 35,680 establishments in the country complied with the payment of the holiday pay.
She said employers more often violators of the holiday pay requirements than the minimum wage standards.
Under the law, employers are required to pay their employees who will go on duty on an officially-declared holiday, with an additional percentage premium based on their regular pay.(FP/Sunnex)
