PhilHealth exec is UA top alumnus

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) president and chief executive officer Dr. Reynaldo Bondoc Aquino on Saturday was conferred the Outstanding Alumnus award by the University of the Assumption here.
The Outstanding Alumni of the Assumption (TOAA) 2011, the first ever, is the highest recognition bestowed by UA to its alumni who have excelled in their respective fields and have rendered unparalleled service to various communities.
The doctor cum public servant was a graduate of the high school department — a Model Student of the Year in 1971.
Aquino, along with fellow alumni Sacop internal auditor Belina Singian-Katigbak and Commission on Audit state auditor Ferlyn Serrano Guevara, were lauded and compared to biblical “salt and light” by UA president Auxiliary Bishop Roberto Mallari in rites held at the Bishop Emilio Cinense Gymnasium of UA, along with a testimonial fellowship for hundreds of university board passers.
In accepting the award, the former multi-awarded three-term mayor of the City of San Fernando and Third District Representative of Pampanga told Sun.Star Pampanga: “Ako’y natutuwa at nagagalak at mapagmalaki na tayo ay binigyan ng ganitong klaseng award. I understand this is the first ever TOAA for public service at ito ay isang malaking karangalan para sa akin.”
He said the award would inspire him all the more to serve and help Filipinos in any capacity.
The state insurance agency, under Aquino’s care, has grown in financial health to become one of the few government-owned corporations not dependent on subsidies to deliver its mandates, assuring sustained delivery of health care for generations of Filipinos.
As city mayor and congressman then, he moved to save the city and other areas in the province from lahar and floods, making him earn the respect of Fernandinos as well as a roster of awards for his efforts.
He has spent the best years of his life serving in government, and as a sincere and dedicated leader, continues a make a difference in the lives of Filipinos.
“Sana, sa pamamagitan ng karangalang ito, ay lalo pa nating ma-inspire iyong mga Assumptionists na tumulong pa sa iba. Hindi sapat iyong nag-aral ka o nag-graduate ka dito o nagkaroon ng posisyon dahil nag-aral ka sa Assumption, kung hindi dapat maibigay mo ang tulong mo sa kapwa para mas may katuturan ang pagiging Assumptionista mo,” Aquino said.
