Police office to dispose seized firecrackers

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Thousands of illegal firecrackers that were confiscated by police before the New Year revelry will soon be properly disposed to prevent injury to the public.

Pampanga Provincial Police Director Petronio Retirado said that thousands of firecrackers — Five Star, Piccolo, Pla-Pla, Goodbye Philippines and Watusi — were confiscated by the police operatives two days before New Year’s Day.

Retirado said he directed all chiefs of police in the 19 municipalities and one city of the province to confiscate illegal pyrotechnics in their areas of responsibility.

“The operation is also in coordination with other concerned agencies like the DOH (Department of Health) and the LGUs (local government units). This is to prevent, lessen and minimize the occurrence of firecracker-related accidents,” Retirado said.

He said the confiscated firecrackers will be “properly disposed” of this week at the Philippine National Police-Pampanga compound here. (Chris Navarro)
