Public told: Be vigilant vs dengue
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Department of Health (DOH) in Central Luzon urged the public Tuesday to be vigilant against dengue, especially now that the rainy season has started.
“Dengue prevention and control is everybody’s responsibility. We each have our role to play in order to ward off this disease from our communities,” DOH Regional Director Leonita Gorgolon said.
Gorgolon said the DOH here has been infusing resources to conduct activities and assist local government units and other stakeholders to prevent dengue from spreading.
The DOH, she said, is educating local health stakeholders on the how to search and destroy mosquito breeding sites through its “Four S Kontra Dengue.”
The 4S Kontra Dengue Strategy includes (1) Search and destroy, (2) Seek early consultation, (3) Self-protective measures and (4) Say “No” to indiscriminate fogging.
Aside from strengthening its advocacy campaign, the DOH is continuously implementing activities under its Dengue Prevention and Control Program.
The agency has the Dengue Integrated Vector Management. Under this, it has established the use of the long lasting insecticide treated curtains in schools under the project.
The DOH has also partnered with the Department of Science and Technology for the use of ovicidal-larvicidal trap.
Clinical Dengue Management Courses were also conducted to assist doctors in management of dengue cases, while continuous monitoring of dengue cases and the activation of dengue express lanes in hospitals were the other activities done for the program.
