Studes get full scholarships from lawmaker

MEXICO — Third District Representative Aurelio Gonzales Jr. gave full scholarship grants to some 1,083 high school students of Nicanor David Vergara High School in Barangay Anao here.

Gonzales made the formal turn-over of funds amounting to P866,400 on Thursday.

The congressman, who hails from this town, is an alumnus of the said high school.

He said he is personally delighted with the recent visit as it reminds him of his own high school days.

“My visit here is proof of the fact that being a farmer’s son does not limit the dreams you can achieve. Like you, I once walked the corridors of this school and dreamed of a better life. With these scholarship grants, you can now focus on your studies without worrying about your fees,” Gonzales said, urging the beneficiaries to excel and achieve honor for themselves and their barangay.

He also said that the next congressman of the district to follow in his footsteps should come from Anao.

Gonzales also urged the parents of the beneficiaries to help their children with their studies, saying that moral support and proper guidance are more important in keeping their children on the right track.

Gonzales said some P1 million is being appropriated for the scholarship of Anao students each year.
