Tire company workers plant 6,000 trees
December 07, 2010
CLARK FREEPORT — Employees of the Yokohama Tires Philippines Inc. (YTPI), together with their families, have planted over the weekend some 6,000 plants of 35 varieties inside the tire manufacturing plant’s lot area here.
The tree-planting activity is part of YTPI’s Forever Forest 3 project, launched three years ago in line with its environmental protection program.
YTPI President Takayuki Hamaya said the project is the company’s way of protecting the environment for the future generation.
According to Hamaya, it is not only mandatory but the nature of the company to protect the environment and do its part to reduce global warming.
Hamaya said their environment management program is not limited only to tree planting.
The YTPI, he added, is committed to “spur more initiatives to protect our Mother Earth and set an example to encourage other industries to take part and be responsible for our global conditions.”
Trees will not only clean the air but also prevent natural calamities like flooding, Hamaya said.
YTPI executive vice president Angelina Casasola said the Forever Forest project started in 2008. According to her, some 5,000 trees were planted around the YTPI area during the project launch.
In December 5, 2008, YTPI held its second Forever Forest project, where some 4,300 native trees of different species were planted at a 1,289-square-meter lot.
About 960 volunteers — composed of employees, family members, government officials and representatives from other companies inside the Freeport — participated in the event.
The tree-planting project is aimed at developing forests around all major plants of Yokohama Rubber Company Limited by 2017 to mark its 100th anniversary.
