Unique Mother’s Day gift ideas from the dollar store
Every year you wonder what you can possibly get your mom that will really show how much you appreciate her and every year it gets harder to find something different. As an empty-nester mom myself, I can tell you that having my adult kids appear on my doorstep from time to time is gift enough. Anything they might bring to give me on a special occasion is like chocolate drizzle on chocolate layer cake, unnecessary but delightful.
We all enjoy giving and receiving gifts but, once you understand that it doesn’t have to be a dozen roses or some other ridiculously priced item, you can relax and just have fun with it. (In case my kids are reading this, I’d really appreciate a tray of bedding plants for the front garden.)

Beach Mom — This gift consists of a pair of flip flops, a bottled drink like Gatorade, sunblock, sunglasses and a manicure set, with a fabric lei thrown in for effect. If your mom enjoys word puzzles, why not add a couple of puzzle books as well. You could also include an acrylic tumbler or wine glass to enjoy her beverage from.
Any combination of these things is sure to please a mom who enjoys relaxing outdoors and it doesn’t need to cost more than $10, including a basket or bag.
Chef Mom — Definitely not me, but if your mom likes cooking and baking, she’s sure to appreciate the gift of extra tea towels, a coupon organizer, a kitchen timer and an assortment of new kitchen tools.
Crafty Mom — Dollar Tree suggests drawer organizers, scissors, glue, foam shapes, a sharpie marker pen, a package of colored pipe cleaners and a bag of accent gems. But, for the mom who enjoys scrap-booking or other crafts, there are loads of things to choose from at the dollar store.

For the mom who’s a gardener, put together a gift in a flower pot that includes some pruners, new garden gloves, three packets of flower seeds and a package of “T” labels.
